In October, 1963 The international Center for the Typography graphic Arts made a competition for a world exhibition of the most significant typography of the twentieth century. There were 12 excellent typographer judges. The judges were Horst Erich Wolter, Anton Stankowski, Herman Zapf from Germany; Hans Neuburg, Max Calfisch from Switzerland; Olle Eksell from Sweden; Louis Dorfsman from USA; Clair Dair from Canada; Piet Zwart from Netherlands; Roger Excoffon from France; Hiromu Hara from Japan; and Oldrich Hlavsa from Czechoslovakia. Each work were judged based on the beauty, aesthetic, appeal, form, and excellence of typographic artistry.
There were almost 10.000 entries submitted for Type Mondus but only 612 entries were selected. Unfortunately, 77 of the works accidentally destroyed after judging and couldn’t be replaced in time. There were very valuable examples of typography designs. It starts with the example of judges work and divided into categories; books, book jackets, catalogs, reports, magazines, newspapers, printing for commerce, posters, advertisements, packaging, record covers, experimental, typography in architecture, signs and symbols, motion picture and television, special occasions, lettering and calligraphy and miscellaneous typography. This book is a very valuable reference for different kind of typography treatment.
