Typefaces(all designed by Adrian Frutiger):
Linotype Univers 430, 630 (german text)
Méridien roman, bold (french text)
Frutiger 55, 65 (english text)

The main text is set in three languages. The German text is composed in Linotype Univers, the French text in Méridien, and the English text in Frutiger, a typeface designed by Frutiger himself.
The subtle vertical misalignments between columns and the contrasts created by the differing typeface forms work in perfect harmony, making the trilingual structure a key contributor to the book’s outstanding design quality.

Even in vintage condition, this title is rarely seen on the market, and obtaining a copy in factory-sealed condition is almost impossible. It is therefore an exceptionally valuable publication, particularly for those interested in type design and algorithmic approaches to typography.

In addition to his decades of activity as a designer of typefaces, Adrian Frutiger has for just as long worked on “free” forms. These forms are here assembled in a single volume for the first time. With them, the artist examines some basic themes of human existence.

As with the typefaces, the relationship between black and white areas, inner and outer forms, is essential. In Frutiger’s creative artistic work, the harmonious relationship between form and counter form, between black and white, becomes a statement of human and universal potentialities: a harmonious juxtaposition of basically conflicting antagonisms.
