IDEA No. 142 features a cover design by Helmut Schmid and is devoted to the visual identity for the Social Democratic Party of West Germany (SPD), designed by Schmid.
As can be seen, this SPD election campaign transforms the three colors of the German flag—black, red, and yellow—into wave-like stripes. In this sense, it can be regarded as an early precursor to what would today be called a dynamic visual identity, making the issue an exceptionally valuable reference.
IDEA No. 156 features an experimental and strikingly beautiful cover designed by Wolfgang Weingart, created from his imagination of Japan at a time when he had not yet visited the country. Notably, the contents of this issue do not include any articles by Weingart himself.
