The No. 23 issue from the 2013 COMME des GARÇONS direct mail collaboration with Katsuhiro Otomo features Domu: A Child’s Dream, often regarded as a precursor to AKIRA.
The cover design presents the telekinetic girl Etsuko—known as Ecchan, the protagonist of Domu—bound with a semi-transparent vellum sheet.
Across its pages, collaged elements include Otomo’s iconic hippo character “Kaba,” along with “Shaka” rendered in acrylic paint.
It is a real gem for Otomo enthusiasts.
This DM was distributed at the opening of the COMME des GARÇONS Fukuoka store, and as it was not part of a nationwide release, it is extremely rare.
