The Stedelijk Museum’s exhibition Als golfslag op het strand… Ad Dekkers in zijn tijd explores the work of Dutch artist Ad Dekkers (1938–1974) alongside that of his contemporaries, such as Dibbets, Struycken, Volten, Andre, Kelly, and Mangold. Dekkers, part of a key generation in the 1960s, significantly influenced the development of abstract art in the Netherlands, following the vibrant Cobra movement with a focus on form, light, proportion, and material. His minimalist white reliefs, especially those with circles and lines, left a strong impression on other artists. The exhibition also contextualizes Dekkers within a wider international art scene, featuring influential figures like Mondrian, Albers, Judd, Ryman, and LeWitt. This retrospective highlights the evolving trends in abstract, minimal, and conceptual art during the 1960s and 1970s.
