Published by the Schweizerischer Typographenbund zur Förderung der Berufsbildung, this issue of TM (Typographische Monatsblätter), No. 12, December 1976, was produced as part of the magazine’s special series *Pioniere der Typografie des 20. Jahrhunderts* (Pioneers of 20th Century Typography) and is dedicated to Wolfgang Weingart.
At the beginning of the issue appears an introductory text by editor-in-chief Rudolf Hostettler. Rather than presenting Weingart as a historical “pioneer,” Hostettler argues that the term is somewhat inappropriate, since Weingart was not a figure of the past but an active designer working at the forefront of contemporary typography.
The text highlights qualities that connected Weingart to the great pioneers of the early twentieth century: an uncompromising spirit, a willingness to challenge conventional notions of beauty, a passion for experimentation, and an eagerness to explore the creative potential of new technologies. Hostettler also notes that by 1976 Weingart had already become a widely imitated figure among younger designers, a testament to his growing influence on contemporary typographic practice.
Today, Weingart is widely recognized as one of the central figures of New Wave Typography. This introductory essay is particularly valuable because it documents how the editors of TM understood his significance at the very moment his influence was beginning to reshape the direction of international typography.

TM誌の歴史
1882年にSGM誌がチューリヒのR.Scweizer氏によって創刊された。
1923年にはRSI誌がE.Guggiに氏により創刊。そして1933年、ベルンのスイスタイポグラフィ協会からTM(Typografische Monatsblatter)誌が創刊された。
1948年にTM誌とRSI誌が、さらに1952年にはSGM誌も加えた３誌がTM誌に合併。
尚、出版社はComedia社であり、1981年のRudolf Hostettler氏の没後からは、Jean Pierre Graberが編集を手掛けている。現在はLucius Hartmannの編集の下で季刊ベースで発行されている。
