in 1952, a world exhibition of photography was organised in lucerne, switzerland. this is the catalogue, published with german texts and summaries in french and english, edited and designed by hans neuburg (1904-1983) who specialized in graphic design work for industrial companies.
geometric cover art, assymetrically arranged sans-serif titles, photo bleeds, norm paper size (din a5) and multi-column, multi-lingual texts are typically “swiss”.
the photos cover all photographic fields – portrait, work, sport, landscape, science, fashion, etc. great works by brassai, irving penn, john rawlings, e.a heiniger, hugo p. herdeg, michael wolgensinger and many others are reproduced, edward steichen contributed a text.
there also were sections about architecture and art in photography, edited by richard paul lohse (1902-1988). one of his paintings is reproduced (below left).
