The paper cutout – or gouache decoupee – is made by cutting shapes out of paper that has been previously colored with poster-color. ピカソやマティスようのな歴史上のビッグーアーティストの作品集は様々な出版社からでていてなかなか希少性を感じにくいですが、
こちらのThames & Hudson出版のものは表紙も含め非常にバランスのよい作品集となっています。
アシスタントに色紙を作ってもらい自分は、はさみで切り抜いて作品を作り上げていった。体の都合でマティスの作品にも変化が現れ、自然から受ける感覚、感触をダイレクトに現すようなことができるようになっていった。形を見るというより、心の目で見るといった花や植物が抱いている安らぎの感じを、はさみを使うことで身体的な動きを通して、機能化して表現し、生命そのものの記号になるように求めていった。
