World of Video Game Fonts

Books and magazines may contain fixed information, yet their value continues to shift over time.
Founded in 1953 with the aim of presenting international graphic art and typography from Japan to the world, IDEA magazine has fulfilled this role for more than seventy years.

From today’s perspective, however, one of the most emblematic issues in the history of IDEA is not devoted to Swiss typography, but rather to issue 352, which focuses on the graphics and typefaces of Japanese video games from the late 1970s through the early 2000s.

In the end, it is precisely this issue, which communicates Japanese culture itself, that has come to represent the kind of “idea” the world now seeks.
