Heinz Waibl

Born in Verona in 1931, he holds the chair in Visual Design at the Milan Polytechnic School of Design, founded by Nino Di Salvatore. As Max Huber’s student and assistant, he gave courses in graphic design together with Huber at Milan’s Umanitaria school, where Albe Steiner, Bob Noorda, Michele Provinciali, Giancarlo Iliprandi and Massimo Vignelli also taught.
Waibl’s professional training matured in the extraordinary artistic and cultural environment of post-World War II Milan, where architects and designers created the bases for the phenomenon known as ‘Made In Italy’. It was his international experience, however, to Widen and characterize his graphic-design style, through constant contact with the leaders of European graphics culture.
After a period spent in the United States (where from 1967 to 1971 he worked for the Unimark International Corporation), he returned to Milan and with Laura Micheletto, he founded the Signo Studio, of which he is president, project supervisor and art director.
He is a member of the Industrial Design Association (ADI) and the Alliance Graphique International (AGI).
He is the author of the book “The roots of italian Visual communication” edited by Centro di Cultura Grafica Como, 1988. He lives, teaches and works in Milan.
