Since 1941, the Swiss government has organized an annual “Best Poster of the Year” competition, and this leaflet presents the winning posters from 1966.
The design was created by Richard Paul Lohse (1902–1988). According to the catalogue of his graphic design works (ISBN 9783775707671), p.260, Lohse served on the jury for many years and also designed the brochure series beginning in 1956. This design format continued until 1971, and the red square on the front cover recalls Lohse’s earlier design language.
The text was written by art historian and former HfG Ulm student Margit Staber.
Many of the posters included in this leaflet are no longer strictly “Swiss Style,” but instead reveal a strong influence of Pop Art.
