Almir Mavignier
1st May 1925 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, lives and works in Hamburg , Germany is a living in Germany painter and graphic artist of Brazilian origin. He is the the Concrete Artist and graphic designer.

Almir Mavignier studied after graduating from high school in 1946, painting by Arpad Szenes in Rio de Janeiro. In 1949 he painted his first abstract picture. In 1951 he had his first solo exhibition at the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo. In the same year he moved to Paris .

From 1952 he devoted himself in his pictures of concrete art. In 1953 he went to Ulm, where he studied until 1958 at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm on the department for visual design with Max Bill and Josef Albers. In 1954 he created his first ” dot pictures “, 1955 his first” grid structures “. In 1956, originated Optical Art Pictures, from 1957 he also painted monochrome images. From 1958 he worked with the artists of the group ” ZERO together. ” In 1959 he founded his own studio in Ulm and worked as a freelance commercial artist.

In 1964 he took part in the documenta III in Kassel . In 1965 Mavignier was appointed professor of painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. His studio in Hamburg he founded in 1968. During the same year he was with the 4th documentation a second time to a documenta charged as a participant.
Mavignier was also in the field of poster graphic works, he created more than 200 posters, mainly for art and cultural exhibitions.
